The audition CD or cassette is an important part of the application process and provides us with the information needed in deciding your acceptance.

Additionally, knowing your skill level helps us to place you in the appropriate track, link you with the best private teacher and possibly choose you for the different instrumental/vocal solos and cantor opportunities throughout the week.

While we do not encourage studio sounding recordings, it is in your best interest to provide us with a good quality recording of your gifts. Below is a listing of guidelines for your submissions. Returning students, please note that there are several changes to pass instructions.

1.) YOU MUST clearly label your recording with your full name. If using a cassette be sure the label is attached to the side your recording will play on. If using a CD, please label it with a Sharpie pen, not a paper label.

2.) Please provide a list of all songs you are including and what you are singing/playing on each piece.

3.) There must be one CD/cassette with each application. If a group of you from the same community completes your audition recording together, you must include a separate copy with each applicant. Be sure that your list of songs specifically states the songs/verses you are specifically singing on.

4.) All songs must be accompanied by either piano, guitar, or organ. Be sure to listen to your recording before mailing it. We need to hear you (not your accompanist!!). Also, no auditions will be considered if you are playing/singing over pre-recorded tracks.

5.) Singers, we often use bi-lingual music at our “Festival Sing” and other liturgies. If you have a background in other languages, please include songs from other cultures and languages as one of your choices.

6.) Include the breath of your talents!!! Singers, if you play an instrument – include a piece that shows your gifts. Instrumentalists, if you’re a singer, we need to know this - provide a song that shares your vocal gifts.

7.) Your recording must include the following:

• A liturgical song performed on your primary instrument, chosen from the following list; sung in the following form: One refrain, one verse, a second refrain.

The Name of God, Haas (GIA)

Mi Alma Está Sedienta/My Soul Is Thirsting, Alonso (GIA)

On Eagle's Wings, Joncas (OCP)

On Holy Ground, Péna (GIA)

Gathered As One, Tate (WLP)

All That is Hidden, Farrell (OCP)

• A liturgical song of your choosing that contrasts your choice from the list above. Please choose a song you are comfortable with and currently singing at liturgy in your community. Please keep the length to under 2 minutes.

• A sample(s) that shows your gifts on any other instruments/vocals/languages. If you play several instruments well, be sure to include a short piece displaying your gifts on each.

8.) Lastly, don’t wait till the last minute! Make an appointment with your music director, accompanist, school music teacher today!!

9.) PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER to label your CD/Cassette - AND DO NOT forget to include a list of your songs.
